Halved (“the App”) is operated by Paul Lipkin
(“we,” “us,” or “our”). This Privacy
Policy explains what information the App collects, how we use it, and the
choices you have. The App helps golfers set up casual rounds and track
friendly golf games and scoring among the players in their group.
By creating an account or using the App, you agree to the practices
described in this policy.
1. Information We Collect
Account information
When an account is created for you, we store:
- A username and a password (the password is stored only in a securely
hashed form — we never store or see your raw password).
- Optionally, your email address and your first and last name, if
provided.
- The group (“account”) you belong to, which lets the people
in your golf group share players, rounds, and games.
Player profile
A player profile may include:
- Your name and a short display name (e.g., initials).
- Optionally, an email address and phone number, if provided.
- Your golf handicap index.
- A men’s / women’s designation, used only to pick the
default set of tees when setting up a round.
Golf activity
As you use the App, we store the golf data you and your group create:
- Rounds, courses, tees, and the players grouped into each foursome.
- Hole-by-hole scores.
- Games played and their results, including the per-point or per-hole
stakes you set for friendly games and the resulting tallies.
Information stored only on your device
- An authentication token that keeps you signed in between sessions.
- A local copy of recent scores so you can keep entering scores when
your phone is temporarily offline; this syncs to our server when a
connection returns.
- Your personal in-app preferences (such as score-entry display
options).
2. Information We Do Not Collect
We want to be clear about what the App does not do:
- The App does not access your device location, camera,
photos, contacts, or microphone.
- The App does not contain any advertising, and we do
not sell your information.
- The App does not include third-party analytics,
advertising, or tracking software.
- We do not track you across other companies’ apps
or websites.
3. How We Use Your Information
We use the information above only to operate the App, specifically to:
- Authenticate you and keep your account secure.
- Send a one-time passcode by SMS text message to verify your phone
number and sign you in (see “SMS / Text Messages” below).
- Set up rounds, calculate handicaps, and score the golf games you
play.
- Share players, rounds, and game results among the members of your
golf group.
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and improve the App.
The friendly-game stakes recorded in the App are for scoring and
settling up informally among friends. The App does not process payments
and is not a gambling or money-transfer service.
4. How Information Is Shared
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only as follows:
- Members of your golf group. Players, rounds, scores,
and game results are visible to the other members of the account
(group) you belong to — that is the core purpose of the App.
- Hosting / infrastructure provider. The App’s
data is stored on cloud infrastructure operated by our hosting
provider, which processes data solely on our behalf to run the
service.
- SMS delivery provider. When you sign in by phone, we
send your mobile number and the login code to our SMS provider solely
to deliver that one-time passcode. They process it only to send the
message and do not use it for their own purposes.
- Golf course information service. To help you add a
course, the App may request public course and tee data from a
third-party golf course database. We send only the course search
terms needed for that lookup; we do not send your
personal information to that service.
- Legal reasons. We may disclose information if
required by law or to protect the rights, safety, or property of our
users or others.
5. Data Retention and Account Deletion
You can delete your account at any time from within the App
(Settings → Delete Account).
When you delete your account:
- Your login (username and password) is permanently removed and you are
signed out. You will no longer be able to sign in.
- Personal details on your player profile — your name, email, and
phone number — are removed or replaced with an anonymous
placeholder.
- Because your past scores are part of shared scorecards that belong to
other golfers in your group, those historical game records may be
retained in an anonymized form (no longer associated
with your name or contact details) so that other players’ round
histories remain intact.

6. Data Security
We take reasonable measures to protect your information. Passwords are
stored only as salted hashes, data is transmitted over encrypted (HTTPS)
connections, and access to stored data is restricted. No method of
transmission or storage is completely secure, however, and we cannot
guarantee absolute security.
7. Children’s Privacy
The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children
under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children
under 13. If you believe a child has provided us with personal
information, please contact us and we will delete it.
8. International Users
The App is operated from the United States, and your information is stored
and processed there. If you use the App from outside the United States,
you understand that your information will be transferred to and processed
in the United States.
9. Your Choices and Rights
You can review and update your player profile within the App, and you can
delete your account as described in Section 5. Depending on where you
live, you may have additional rights regarding your personal information
(such as the right to access or delete it). To exercise any such rights,

10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. When we do, we will
revise the “Last updated” date at the top of this page.
Significant changes will be reflected here, and your continued use of the
App after an update means you accept the revised policy.
11. SMS / Text Messages
If you choose to sign in with your phone number, we send a
one-time passcode (OTP) by SMS text message to verify that
the number is yours. This is the only type of text message the App sends.
- Consent / opt-in. You opt in by entering your mobile
number on the sign-in screen and tapping “Send code” to
request a login code. You can choose instead to sign in with a username
and password.
- Message content and frequency. Messages contain only a
verification code and are sent only when you request one (typically a
few times per year). We do not send marketing or
promotional texts.
- Carrier charges. Message and data rates may apply,
depending on your mobile plan.
- No sale or sharing for marketing. We do
not sell your mobile number or share it with third
parties for their own marketing. We share it only with our SMS delivery
provider solely to send your login codes (see
“How Information Is Shared”).
- Stopping messages. Because these texts are sent only
in response to your own sign-in requests, you can stop receiving them by
not requesting a code (or by using username-and-password sign-in). You
may also reply STOP to opt out.
